Just Me and You

Bullet Point Bio

pronounced:
Ez as in "says" rin as in "tin".  Zy as in "eye", zyx as in "fix")

I'm not trying to sell a persona... though that is the status quo in music today.  Thus, the below is a half-assed effort to meet that current benchmark of - "listen to my music because I'm interesting"

Bullet Point bio.

  • I'm a classically trained musician... (not as a singer)

  • I play all the instruments on the album.

  • I write music across multiple genres including country, folk, rock/hard rock, pop and orchestral... but my dog prefers metal. My wife's cat is unimpressed with all of it.

  • I was a high school history teacher in Compton, CA for five years during my 10+ years teaching.

  • I was homeless for two years (as a 37 year old), living in an abandoned building on a Native American Reservation.

    • My Grandfather was a full-blooded Plains Indian.

  • I've had 5 "no BS" near death experiences - mostly due to stupidity

    • I've flat-lined, been lost in a desert, and was a victim of a genuine attempted murder in my home.

Your Hero - Atlas
  • I am currently a contract business writer (I've worked for Nike and Adobe) and also teach international grade school kids online - geography and history.

  • There are no images of my face a online for a reason... it's either because:

    • I'm not a narcissist... or,

    • I may or may not be wanted by authorities in California :)

Rosewood and Gray

Rosewood & Gray, Volume 1, is a blended album of rock, country, and Americana music.  Volumes 2 & 3 are recorded and are being mastered.

The argument I have to have...

It may seem a risky endeavor to feature such diverse and seemingly “at-odds” genres on the same album.  Country and Rock together?  There’s no question I’ll catch s**t for it from reviewers and the general public alike. Led Zeppelin and the Rolling Stones did it, so, there you go.  I've already heard the criticisms about my name... (I wonder if the band Lynyrd Skynyrd heard the same.)  It’s ironic that the digital age promised a wider appreciation across multiple barriers yet produced just the opposite: a cacophony of niche genres and a hardening of the barriers between the marquee styles… and political beliefs.

The generations of influence have in common a culturally embedded propensity for “radical inclusion” while also demanding that which they consume to be unique, bold, and off script.  That is certainly what these albums are, but I doubt if my music will be included in that sense of inclusion… of course, that’s not why I wrote these albums.  I’m a musician – I just write music, without any sense of needing to stay in a specific lane. I truly enjoy all forms, and I see myself as just a musician and song writer – not a rock artist, or a country musician.

My music is “content of consequence”.  It is meaningful and visceral rather than shallow and mindless– it defies the trends, ignores the more recent cliché musical scripts, and, I believe, genuinely delivers great music.  At least I like it.
